We're flattered you asked!
Paragon is an award-winning design studio based in Savannah, Georgia, known for our smart design for evolving brands. In a nutshell, we design everything print, web and motion graphics. But we're really more than mouse-pushers and effects junkies. We're creative thinkers dedicated to business innovation through design, sustainability and, of course, chocolate.
We love working with clients who are passionate about what they do and are ready to take their brands to the next level. Once you get to know us you'll realize that we're a bit silly as individuals but when it comes to our work and our design, we couldn’t be more serious.
Our approach to everything we do is summed up in our credo:
1. We believe challenges are best tackled with upside-down thinking
2. We believe designing for the greater good is our biggest challenge.
3. We believe the best solutions are beautiful to look at.
Now that you know a bit about us, give us a call or come on by...hang out on our comfy couches, relax in the courtyard, enjoy a cup of coffee and tell us what's on your mind.
Susan has way too many cats. She collects them, just like she collects untidy desktop icons and coffee cups. She is one of the few people out there who screens her calls so that she never misses a telemarketer. Sadly, the romance is one-sided and they never want to give her their number even though they always have hers.
With degrees in architecture and electronic design, and informal training in foreign accents, Susan does absolutely no architecture at all, but has joined in for the electric slide at a few weddings. She is a spreadsheet junkie and will fight you if you try to neatly arrange her Photoshop tool palettes. While she has earned the respect of her peers and the disdain of her enemies, Susan remains level-headed and easy going as she champions the cause of great design and great business. Originally from Grenada in the very southern Caribbean, Susan has been known to hand out bottles of rum indiscriminately. We've tried to stop her, but she's descended from pirates and will make you walk the plank if you cross her and her rum bottle. Her parents are very proud.
What can you say about this master of his own little technological galaxy? With the battle cry "Profanity! Profanity!" Phil wrangles Demons to their knees, and makes them weep and plead for mercy. Sure he has a degree in Motion Graphics and his designs have won awards, and yeah, we know he's Maya certified and can play a mean acoustic guitar, but what it all comes down to is this: great talent, a ridiculous sense of humor and the inability to be away from his computer or Cannon XL2 for more than five minutes. And he's good. Really, really good.
Plus there's that whole ballet dancing thing. He's hasn't won awards for that. Yet.
Not only can the man stare down a CSS code until it writes itself in sheer terror, but he is famous around 220 E. Hall St for what we like to call his "happy dance". Few have seen it, and those who have can't get enough. What? Your computer's broken? No problem. All Phil needs is a shoelace and a hamburger bun and you will be blazing through your project or doing a random Google search in no time.
You need to shoot a commercial? Where? What time? Intro animation? 3D? Cool...DONE. And DONE.
What do you mean you never heard of him? Where have you been? Everybody's heard of Drew. He's that good. Feeling sad about how pale you are? No problem. Drew's natural Jamaican glow is plenty golden for all of us. Low self-esteem? Hah! Here! Have one of his GAZILLION awards; we don't know where to stash them anyway. Right now we're using eight of them as uprights for a shelving unit. Just know this: Drew's got you covered. His degrees in Illustration, 2D animation and Broadcast Design, and his volleyball skillz mean he can get your design done and play well with others at the same time. He's the Creative Director at Paragon and will call you out if you start hanging out with shady-looking fonts and messing around with whacked-out color palettes.
Most importantly though - he's tall. That shelving system is way too high for everyone else to reach. But Drew can. He can do everything. As a matter of fact his height is the reason he's the CD. He can see what everyone's working on. While he's sitting down. In his office. At his desk. Not only that, but Drew has positioned himself as a dominant figure in the Caribbean art scene, by simply standing up when he's at an art related function.
That's really tall.
"Who's that dude with no socks on? Why are there so many Starbucks cups on his desk? Is it just me, or does he kinda look like Sarah Jessica Parker?" If you're asking yourself these questions, you must be referring to our branding, print and web design action-figure, James.
What will impress you about him is not just that he's won numerous awards, including a Telly and an Hermes Creative Award, or even that he's worked for folks like Warner Bros, Walden Media, The US Dept of Justice, and of course Disney....let's face it, it's the fact that like all good action-figures, he comes with a sports utility vehicle. The only problem is his arms and legs aren't really interchangeable. We found that out the hard way.
While he swears he won't design for internet explorer and is unable to breathe without his iphone, James is generally an easy-going guy who can be convinced to do almost anything if there'll be food involved. Did we mention that he's a walking logomark / font database who also ups our height average? Now there are TWO people who can reach the top-shelf refreshments around here. Thank goodness!
Angel knows how to corral scattered marketing concepts. It's a skill she has to use often, because keeping Paragon's design team from shot-gunning ideas all over the office is impossible. We're not sure if it's her strict diet of sushi and banana pudding, but she somehow manages to make sense of it all. Throw in her dedication to research, and you've got someone who can tell you about the latest multi-media design trends, suggest ways to remain current, and give you a play-by-play of the squirrel activity outside her window. At this very moment, she's training those squirrels to obey her every command.
As the gatekeeper of Paragon's public persona, her mixed martial arts training and guns of steel, make her a PR force to be reckoned with. You need some information about Paragon? Angel's on top of it. How many awards do we have? Hang on, she's counting...and she'll call you back just as soon as she finds her Blackberry..... and her sunglasses.
While checking out 2 books I’m interested in, Daniel Pink’s “Drive” and Shankar Vedantam’s “The Hidden Brain“, I noticed something. It seems their book designers both love using shadows. Nothing new I suppose, shadows are a familiar design device. It was just curious seeing it used by books right next to each other, especially since
Sure this past Saturday morning was cold and windy, but that was not enough to slow down Project H’s Design Revolution Road Show which cruised into town for the day. Vintage Airstream that housed the exhibit. Talk about shiny! I had the pleasure of spending the day with the inspiring folks at the helm:
Thanks to BFG and their Creative Seed Initiative, we had the opportunity to meet DJ Stout. Head of Pentagram/ Austin and long time idol (but then again who at Pentagram isn’t one of our idols?). While it was great listening to the thought process behind some of his iconic work the most useful aspect I
